Taraweeh Prayer

What is Taraweeh?

It is the night prayer of Ramadan, performed in congregation after Isha. The Prophet ๏ทบ said: โ€œWhoever stands in prayer in Ramadan with faith and seeking reward, his previous sins are forgiven.โ€

Number of rak'ahs

Scholars differ: eight rak'ahs plus three of Witr, or twenty. Both have been practised for centuries and there is flexibility.

Etiquette

  • Be calm and unhurried in bowing and prostration.
  • Stay with the imam until he finishes so a full night is recorded for you.
  • Reflect on the Quran as it is recited.
